Meet the Director
Michael Reeves is honored to serve as the very first director of bands at Olentangy Berlin High School. Mr. Reeves was born and raised in Johnstown where he was a five-year member of the Big Red Band. During his high school years, he was also a member of the show choir "Chorale" and was a three-sport athlete, playing soccer, basketball, and baseball.
Upon graduation, Mr. Reeves attended Ohio University where he continued his studies in Music Education. While at OU, he was a member of the Marching 110 where he served as the Alto Saxophone Section Leader and as Dance Commander his senior year. Mr. Reeves was also a two-time winner of the annual Student Arrangers Competition and was selected as a student conductor for the Symphonic Band. During his years in Athens, he also sang in an A Capella group called "The Leading Tones" and served as Treasurer and President of the Honorary Band Fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi. Mr. Reeves graduated Cum Laude in 2012 from Ohio University after completing his student teaching at Berne Union Local Schools under the supervision of JD Latorre.
Immediately following student teaching, Mr. Reeves was hired as the band director & music teacher at Harvest Preparatory School. The following summer he was hired at Fredericktown Local Schools to serve as the band director. In his five years as director, Fredericktown's band grew from 52 members to 93 and was selected to perform in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis, TN. The FHS concert band also earned top ratings at OMEA Large Group Contest and Music in the Parks Regional Events.
Mr. Reeves currently lives in Delaware with his wife Katelyn, children Charlotte and Harrison, and his two dogs, Rory and Copper . He spends his free time traveling with his family, hiking, camping, and is proud to say he has explored over twenty US National Parks. Mr. Reeves enjoys playing golf, basketball, baseball, and most other sports as well.
Mr. Reeves teaches marching band, concert band, jazz band, intro to music theory, and AP music theory at Olentangy Berlin High School.
